Donnelly's Policy Press Conference Centers on Protecting Families

JEFFERSON CITY - During a mid-morning press conference at the state's capitol today Attorney General Candidate Margaret Donnelly held a press conference to announce her policy priorities that center on protecting Missouri families from consumer scams and from sexual predators.

Donnelly spoke about the Children's Product Safety Act which will require mandatory removal of all recalled children's toys and products and a ban on toxic chemicals in these products. She also discussed the establishment of a Senior Citizen Consumer Fraud Hotline to provide an easy way for seniors to check on and report consumer and financial frauds.

Donnelly also announced that she would create a variety of consumer alert options that fit the citizen: text messages, specialized RSS feeds and email alerts. Missourians will be able to sign up to receive these alerts from the Attorney General's office.

Donnelly plans to crack down on sexual predators by making sure Missouri is working towards compliance with the federal mandates laid forth in the Adam Walsh Act to bring nationwide standards to registering sex offenders. A fugitive unit within the Attorney General's office will be established to work with local authorities to track sexual offenders who violate parole or do not register.

"Scammers, sexual predators, and those who bring unsafe products to this state will find my administration standing guard to keep Missouri families safe," stated Donnelly. "As Attorney General, my office will be guided by the same principles and values I have held throughout my career -- to give a voice to those who have none and to stand up and fight to keep all Missourians safe. I will be the strongest defender and protector of Missouri's families."
